Finally, MNP ( Mobile Number Portability ) may start in India from 20 September, 2009 as per recent news. Mobile Subscriber may have to pay around Rs. 300 for this service. Here is the news :
KOLKATA: Consumers in all likelihood will not have to pay more than Rs 300 to change from one mobile service provider to another, while keeping the phone number intact, a facility likely to start from September 20.
“It will be one time cost for subscribers seeking portability, but the charge is not yet finalised by the DoT and TRAI, on which they are working. So far, it seems the charges would not be more than Rs 300, but this could be even below Rs 200,” sources close to the developments said. Source and Complete News.
This will help mobile subscriber in switching mobile operators and still keep the same number. When people are transferred from one city to another, no longer they have to change their mobile number. In a way, people who has to be in another city for few months for some projects, he would be able to keep his number by choosing to opt the local mobile operator there.
There are many complaints about weak signals at home and better signal at office by many mobile subscribers. Now they will have an option to switch mobile operators who provide them good signals both at home and office.
