Finally, Tata Teleservices ( A Tata Group Company) has entered into offering mobile services in India based in GSM technology too. It will no doubt create more choice for telecom subscribers in India. As for mobile subscribers in India, most probably, they can not now name the all operators in their circle. Also, even though new players are joining the fray, few things remain the same :
1. High SMS cost while roaming
2. Concept of roaming.
3. Charging for incoming while roaming in India. I am still wondering why should there be incoming cost or higher outgoing cost while a subscriber goes out of its own circle ?
With new playres in GSM market when they have been sharing towers among themselves, most probably, it is high time for TRAI to recommend to do away with roaming.
Here is the new about Tata Tele venturing into GSM:
NewsMUMBAI: For the Tatas, offering mobile services on the global system for mobile (GSM) platform is a “compulsion” and not a choice. The absence of a spectrum roadmap for code division multiple access
(CDMA) operators and the limited allocation of airwaves has forced Tata Teleservices (TTSL), the group’s flagship telecom company, to offer services on the GSM platform as well. Source and whole story.
