  • Jamrabij Festival at Menar, Udaipur, Rajasthan in India

Menar is a very famous village in Udaipur, Rajasthan which has at least 40 years old glorious history. I keep visiting this village which has two large ponds which is home to at least 150 species of birds throughout the year. It also hosts many winter migratory birds during winter.

I had been fortunate to be invited to Jamrabij festival this year by my friend Mr. Umesh Menaria, a resident in Menar village, also student doing PG course, to witness this Jamrabij festival, which takes place one day after Holi festival. This festival is celebrated every year for last 400 years by villagers in Menar. This village is per-dominantly inhabited by Brahmins which took up arms against a Mughal outpost during King Uday Singh of Mewar. The brave Menaria Brahmins were able to dislodge Mughal outpost due to which King Uday Singh of Mewar donated 52000 Bighas of land to Brahmins of Menar and now this village is known as Menar village.

  • Residence Cum Museum in Ahmedabad : Dr. Tejus Naik

Normally I visit my village in Assam in the month of January every year from Udaipur, Rajasthan. But this year in 2014, I had to travel to Assam due to my personal problem as well as official work in November too. Since I was going to take a very early morning flight from Ahmedabad to Guwahati, I decided to come one day early to Ahmedabad and wanted to see residence cum museum of Dr. Tejus Naik in Ahmedabad. Times of India, Ahemdabad Edition carried a full page story on the same few weeks ago.

So, accordingly I sent a Facebook Message to Dr. Tejus Naik, whom I met once in 2013 in Kumbhalgarh National Park during a birding trip. As soon as Dr. Tejus Naik got the message, he called me up asked to visit him and also to spend the night with him at his residence. It was an invitation which I could not refuse and I thank my stars that I readily agreed. Though at that time, my one consideration as to save money of lodging in a hotel in Ahemdabad for the night or having to spend the night at Ahmedabad Airport. But by that invitation, it not only saved few thousand rupees of me, but it has also enriched with an experience for which I would always remain indebted to Dr. Tejus Naik.

  • How I started losing weight and then lost 16 KGs

I really liked the above Title Tag and almost dreamed to post an article with such Title for last few years! Finally, today I am posting that article!

    Me Then And Now
    Me Then And Now

( Thanks Nirmal Solanki for this photo )
First thing first, I have been overweight since 1999, first it reached 72Kgs in 1999. I thought its just 72KGs, can lose it whenever I feel like. Then by 2004, it reached 80KGs, and I thought, its still manageable, just 15KGs overweight. Years passed by, and then in 2012, I reached 86Kgs. Started thinking, its difficult to lose weight. But I must lose weight now. So I bought a home gym from Ebay and thought, in next six months or so, I would lose at least 10 KGs. No it did not happen.

It continued for next 2 years till March 2014. After many unsuccessful previous “Final Decisions” to lose weight, I took one more final decisions to lose weight. And here are steps I took:-

  • Top 3 reasons not to buy Xolo Mobile

I bought a Xolo mobile Xolo Q900S in 10 March 2014 and it went to its service centre on 3rd June 2014, that is after 84 days! Since then, no update about after many Email enquiry, except useless reply like, its still under repair, we will soon get back to you. yes, they have a toll free customer service number and that can not be dialed from Airtel Mobile of Rajasthan! And today is 19 Jun 2014!

With that experience with Xolo, I can safely write my top three reasons not to buy Xolo Mobile, forget their advertisements in TV or forget their sponsoring NewsHour in TimesNow!

    1. Quality Control Issue

Xolo must be having poor quality control issue which means they have no control on quality of their mobiles manufactured. In a lot, there may be good quality mobile and there may be poor quality mobile and you can never be sure if the one you bought is of good quality! Its like lottery, you are having a good day, buy Xolo and you may end up getting a good phone else, you will be frustrated with their service and Xolo mobile!

  • The risk of buying off-brand Phones

What is risk of buying ‘not so famous’ or non-branded mobile phone in Indian market ?

    1. Quality Control
Its almost lottery while buying a premium looking, specification rich yet low cost or affordable mobile phone from ‘non-branded’ or non premium brand mobile manufacturer in India. If you get a good piece, well, you are lucky, if not, then you would encounter their nightmarish service!

Recently, I bought a XOLO Q900 mobile phone from a shop in Udaipur and I was plain unlucky in the lottery! I got a poor quality handset and in 2 months, the handset started showing WIFI problem! It just does not switch on WIFI so I could not enable whireless hotspot rendering my Nexus tab ( Wifi Only) useless!

  • Going Obsolete: Painful Decisions in Life

Many people will immediately connect with the topic above and may have experienced similar! Recently, I also faced similar decisions.

I am talking about Blackberry phone! Most of initial period of Mobile world till 2009, I was using some phones from either Nokia or Sony Ericsson. I was happy with voice calls and occasional texting. But in 2010, the mobile world changed for me when I started using a Blackberry! Initially, I make mistakes typing using their legendary QWERTY keyboard, but less than 6 months, I was so good in typing in Blackberry that, I could type 2 page email reply in less than 10 minutes!

Then in 2012, I tried with iconic Apple IPhone, but could not type well like Blackberry so, did not continue. Listening music was never my passion, so I gave up IPhone.
