I used to hear about the sentence ( or half sentence) “Develop taste for it” here and there. I never quite understood it, though on looking back, I actually implemented it couple of times before.
When young men ( or women, to be politically correct) starts drinking alcohol during their college days, mostly under peer pressure, they normally don’t like the taste of alcohol initially. Then they develop taste for whiskey, rum or beer. I did develop taste for rum, then for whiskey eventually. It took many years to develop taste for beer though. (more…)
Over the years, I have found out that, one must learn or know how to do few vital things to live independently. It may be impossible to live without depending on others completely, but if one knows the following things, one may live smoothly.
1. Cooking
I think cooking lesson should be compulsory for all. Every one should be at least be able to cook their own staple food, irrespective of their gender. No person should be allowed to pass school if he or she can not cook at least 3 food items. Those three food items should be their main staple diet. For example, for those who eat vegetarians, they must be able to cook either rice or roti ( Indian Bread), one daal (lentil) and one vegetable curry/fried. For non vegetarian, they should be able to cook at least one non-vegetarian dish.
Flipkart is again coming out with their ‘Billion Dollar’ Sale, The Big Billion Sale, which will be only available on Flipkart App, from 13 Oct to 17 Oct 2015. While many people may be excited about this sale, I am not. Rather I am feeling bad for those Flipkart customers who would be disheartened after finding out that Flipkart does not deliver those sales! I am sure that Flipkart can not deliver those products which would be sold during those sales, but it will surely block some money and banks would be happy. Most probably, making banks happy might be the reason for such sale in the first place.
Recently, I had spent lot of time researching about Portable, wireless Bluetooth enabled speaker with following features
1. It should have at least two speakers or tweeters so that it gives stereo output.
2. It should have sub woofer
3. It should have good battery backup
4. It should have FM.
5. NFC is desirable, but not a must
6. It should have at least 3W output each speaker or 6W in total.
7. If it has only speaker, then it should have at least 5W.
8. It should not weigh more than 600gram. Portronics Sublime 2
Most importantly, it must have good audio. As well as build quality.
After lot of research I mean reading customer feedback in ecommerce websites, blog posts comparing different speakers, finally I have listed few which I would recommend to anyone who bothers to ask me:
1. Portronics Sublime 2
2. Logitech X100
3. Amkette TrueMetal
4. JBL Wireless Go
5. Nokia MD
6. Portronics Comet
Anyone who has more budget than Rs 3000, will have many options which would be
1. Jabra solemate or solemate mini
2. JBL Flip 2 or Charge 2
3. Logitech UE Boom or Boom Mini
4. Sony SRS X11 o
Given a choice or budget, I would have either bought Jabra Solemate or JBL Charge 2. But I would also bought two Sony SRS-X11 speakers to carry around or keep in my camera bag permanently.
The first list is just for those who are trying to buy Portable Bluetooth Speaker for their tablet or smartphone and don’t want to spend more than Rs. 3000 initially. Anyone who is seriously looking for alternative of their speakers built in phone or tablet, should spend at least rs. 5000 for Bluetooth Portable speaker.
Recently, I had been to a seminar on social media and how it has given voice to many anonymous figures both popularity and reach for their voices/opinions which otherwise was hostage to select few intellectuals, to quote a person in that seminar.
Talk Journalism
I also could spend considerable time with Dr. CP Joshi, former union cabinet Minister of government India who is now general secretary in charge of Assam, my home state ( going to polls early next year). He was a panelist to discuss about impact of social media on journalism.
I am no fan of Congress ideologies or any of the Congress leaders ( rather most of the time, I find myself allying with Anti-Congress camp), but I found one observation by Dr. CP Joshi which seems to be very true and we may have been overlooking that under the mass hype of Social media, that is, the people who can use social media like Twitter/Facebook etc. are already empowered section of the society and with social media, only this section of the society again beingempowered, thus making them doubly empowered while leaving behind the substantial population who are still uneducated, too poor to own a smartphone or telephone connection, for that matter. I think this is good message to the people and I am surprised that Congress has not been able to bring such voices to be heard among twitter or Facebook generation. (more…)
Menar is a very famous village in Udaipur, Rajasthan which has at least 40 years old glorious history. I keep visiting this village which has two large ponds which is home to at least 150 species of birds throughout the year. It also hosts many winter migratory birds during winter.
I had been fortunate to be invited to Jamrabij festival this year by my friend Mr. Umesh Menaria, a resident in Menar village, also student doing PG course, to witness this Jamrabij festival, which takes place one day after Holi festival. This festival is celebrated every year for last 400 years by villagers in Menar. This village is per-dominantly inhabited by Brahmins which took up arms against a Mughal outpost during King Uday Singh of Mewar. The brave Menaria Brahmins were able to dislodge Mughal outpost due to which King Uday Singh of Mewar donated 52000 Bighas of land to Brahmins of Menar and now this village is known as Menar village. Normally I visit my village in Assam in the month of January every year from Udaipur, Rajasthan. But this year in 2014, I had to travel to Assam due to my personal problem as well as official work in November too. Since I was going to take a very early morning flight from Ahmedabad to Guwahati, I decided to come one day early to Ahmedabad and wanted to see residence cum museum of Dr. Tejus Naik in Ahmedabad. Times of India, Ahemdabad Edition carried a full page story on the same few weeks ago.
So, accordingly I sent a Facebook Message to Dr. Tejus Naik, whom I met once in 2013 in Kumbhalgarh National Park during a birding trip. As soon as Dr. Tejus Naik got the message, he called me up asked to visit him and also to spend the night with him at his residence. It was an invitation which I could not refuse and I thank my stars that I readily agreed. Though at that time, my one consideration as to save money of lodging in a hotel in Ahemdabad for the night or having to spend the night at Ahmedabad Airport. But by that invitation, it not only saved few thousand rupees of me, but it has also enriched with an experience for which I would always remain indebted to Dr. Tejus Naik. (more…)

First thing first, I have been overweight since 1999, first it reached 72Kgs in 1999. I thought its just 72KGs, can lose it whenever I feel like. Then by 2004, it reached 80KGs, and I thought, its still manageable, just 15KGs overweight. Years passed by, and then in 2012, I reached 86Kgs. Started thinking, its difficult to lose weight. But I must lose weight now. So I bought a home gym from Ebay and thought, in next six months or so, I would lose at least 10 KGs. No it did not happen.
It continued for next 2 years till March 2014. After many unsuccessful previous “Final Decisions” to lose weight, I took one more final decisions to lose weight. And here are steps I took:- (more…)
